Introduction to Library archives

The guide to library archives concerning the California condor was developed from information provided by the libraries housing the archived collections.

Each archived collection is listed as:

          Creator or Title
          General contents
          Relevant content
          Library
          Identification code

The archived collections are organized alphabetically by Creator or Title. Creators are the individuals or organizations that generated the collected materials. Some collections are not closely associated with an individual or organization so libraries give these collections a title. Names of individuals are followed by their years of birth and death.

General contents concerns an archived collection as a whole. Relevant content briefly justifies why an archived collection is listed in the guide. In most cases, the available information about a collection’s content is limited so this justification may be superficial.

For most archived collections, I provide the name of the holding institution as the Library. Most libraries assign an Identification code to each of their collections.
